Difficulty: About a 12 mile round trip from the campground, with not much elevation change (roughly 200 feet).

Preparation: None.  The trail is well-signed.

Summary: It's a long day hike that gives a sampler of the kinds of terrain on the island.  First one walks on an elevated coastal flat, with views of mountains and valleys to one side and ocean, the Californian mainland and other Channel Islands on the other.  Lobo Canyon, a deep canyon carved by a river, is filled with vegetation and animal life.  The beach and the end, as well as its flanking rocks, offer many places to take a mid-day nap.  The waves crash violently on the rocks, providing a spectacular show.  4/5
