Black Mountain on Santa Rosa Island [April 7, 2017]

Advertisement: The second highest peak on Santa Rosa Island in Channel Islands National Park is a short hike from the only campsite and offers panoramic views of the southern side of the islands and mountains to the north.  The hike takes you through grassy slopes with few trees to obstruct your view.

The goal is visible early on in this hike.

Difficulty: About a 6 mile round trip from the campsite, with 1500 feet of elevation gain.

Preparation: None.  The trail is along a dirt road.  Some parts of the trail are steep with loose soil, so be careful of slipping going downhill.

Summary: A pretty short hike which can be done in half of an afternoon.  A nice way to get views of the island.  3/5
